Candle Care Instructions
We want you to get the very best out of your beeswax candle every time you light it. Follow these simple tips for a safe burn and a longer-lasting candle:
First Burn Matters – Always let your candle burn until the wax melts all the way to the edges (2–4 hours depending on size). This sets the “memory” of the candle and prevents tunneling.
Trim Your Wick – Before each burn, trim your wick to around 5mm. This reduces smoke, soot, and keeps the flame steady.
Burn Time – Don’t burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Stop once only 5mm of wax remains.
Safe Placement – Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, pets, and children. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Check Your Vessel – If you plan to refill or reuse your eco-resin jar, always check that there are no cracks or damage in the vessel first. This ensures safety when burning or pouring new wax.
These steps help you enjoy a cleaner burn, stronger scent throw, and longer life from your candle.
Candle Care FAQ
Q: What is tunnelling?
Tunneling happens when the wick burns straight down the middle, leaving hard wax around the sides. The trick is to let your candle form a full melt pool on the very first burn. Depending on size, this may take 2–3 hours — but it’s worth it! Your candle will burn evenly and last longer.
Q: What if my candle has already tunneled? Can I fix it?
Yes! You can carefully remove the unmelted wax once the candle has cooled, then relight it and let it burn long enough to reach the edges.
Q: What if my flame is too high or flickering?
If the flame grows too tall, flickers wildly, or produces black smoke, it’s a sign the wick is too long. Extinguish the candle, trim the wick back to around 5mm, and relight. This keeps your burn safe, steady, and helps your candle last longer.
Q: Why does my candle vessel turn black?
If you see black smoke or soot, it usually means the wick is too long. Always trim your wick to 5mm before lighting. This keeps the flame steady and the vessel clean, while helping your candle burn more efficiently.
Q: How do I avoid uneven burning or flare-ups?
Keep your candle away from drafts or moving air (like open windows, fans, or air-con). Air movement can cause flickering, uneven burning, and reduce the overall burn time.
Q: How do I refill my eco-resin candle vessel?
Refilling your eco-resin jar is easy and eco-friendly:
- Check for cracks or chips in the vessel before refilling — only safe, undamaged jars should be reused.
- Remove the leftover wax and wick/wick holder. If the wax is stuck, pop the vessel in the freezer for about 30 minutes to make removal easier.
- Wipe the inside clean with a damp cloth to remove any soot or black marks from previous burns.
- Your vessel is now ready for a refill candle or to be repurposed around the home.
